Zen Buddhist teaching in Cape Town with Hye Tong Sunim



Hye Tong Sunim JDPSN is a monk with the Kwan Um School of Zen in South Korea. He started practicing Zen at Hwagyesa temple in 1995 and was ordained as a monk in the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism in 1996. He lived and worked with Zen Master Seung Sahn at Hwagyesa where he became the director and subsequently took charge of the Seoul International Zen Centre. Hye Tong Sunim has also worked and practised at several Korean Zen monasteries and Cambridge and Providence Zen Center in the U.S.A where he lead many Kyol Che Retreats. In addition, he recently joined the team at Mu Sang Sa International Zen Centre (the Head Temple of the Kwan Um School) and collaborated on the translation of “The Teachings of Zen Master Man Gong” into English. Hye Tong Sunim undertakes teaching trips throughout Asia, America and Europe where his style of teaching and particularly his Kong An teachings are very popular with students.
