*Please note this course will be run according to demand. We need at least 10 fully contributing participants for it to take place. Please register your interest early and we will confirm by October if it is to take place. It is a prerequisite for the following weekend's training.

The first in a series of weekend retreats suitable for anyone interested in the practice of meditation as a way to develop fearlessness, confidence, openness, and gentleness towards ourselves and our world. An introduction or reintroduction to meditation and regular practice over a weekend is a very powerful way to strengthen your meditation and your motivation to develop a regular personal practice.

In The Art of Being Human we see unconditional goodness as the basis of our existence, through the practice of meditation. As we relate to our own experience with gentleness and appreciation, we begin to see our potential as genuine and compassionate human beings.

Meditation is presented as an opportunity to rest in what you already are — basic goodness, natural peace and clarity. It is how we train in being awake, placing the mind on the breath, in the present moment.

Through the simple, regular practice of sitting meditation, you learn to develop friendship with your mind, skill in how to work with speed and difficulty, and a sense of humour. Slowly you can let the mind relax within itself, and let go of struggling with yourself.

The weekend will include:

  • Detailed and regular meditation instruction
  • Periods of meditation practice
  • Individual support and advice
  • Talks on what we can discover through meditation
  • Opportunities to ask questions
  • Group discussion activities
The weekend is non-residential and will take place in The Yoga Sanctuary, Constantia. This is the first in a 2 year series of programmes planned to present the Way of Shambhala and Sacred Path. Please join us on the first step of this path if you possibly can as it will be pre-requisite for the upcoming programmes.

The retreat will be lead by visiting Shastri Brian Hilliard form Brussels. At 18 years old Brian Hilliard became a student of Chőgyam Trungpa Rinpoche. He completed the traditional Tibetan three-year retreat at Gampo Abbey in Nova Scotia.  Shastri Brian has completed the advanced levels of training in the Shambhala tradition. Shastri Brian teaches beginning and advanced students meditation for everyday life and Tibetan yoga.
